GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
An extraordinary accent, extra large, beautiful and fully functional ottoman will be the focal point without a doubt. We have up cycled and created a stylish product that fits perfectly to so many styles and décor. Adding texture and style, this home decor piece can be useful in many situations: works as a cocktail table – it can be easily used as a coffee table if you add a serving board on top; it’s a laptop rest; it’s a great for occasional extra seating or a comfy spot to rest your feet.

Completely reinvented, the legs were totally changed and now this ottoman rests on beautiful sturdy walnut wood feet. The body was re-covered with traditionally hand-woven vintage mud cloth (Bogolan) from Mali together with 100% plain brown cotton fabric. This pouf has been up-cycled to an excellent standard. The interior is composed of foam and polyester batting and a durable solid wooden frame for a lifetime of stability.

A unique piece, you will not find another like it.

BACKSTORY:
Tracing its roots back to the Ottoman Empire where it was designed as a low wooden platform intended to be piled with cushions, the ottoman was brought to Europe in the late 18th century and named after its place of origin. A form of couch, an ottoman nowadays can have and usually has a head but no back, although sometimes it has neither as is the case with the one here. More importantly, it is what upholsterers call "overstuffed”, with no visible wood. It is highly versatile with uses ranging from stool, footstool, coffee table, or as an alternative to a sofa. Modern ottomans are often but not always sold as coordinating furniture with armchairs or gliders. An ottoman can also be called a footstool, tuffet, hassock, or pouf. An upholstered seat without a back or arms can also be dubbed an "Ottoman" serving as storage, with the seat hinged to form a lid.

The upholstery fabric is the bogolan or Bògòlanfini, more commonly known as “mud cloth”. It is a handmade traditional cotton fabric from Burkina Faso and Mali. It is invariably dyed using fermented mud, berries and leaves. A symbol of cultural identity, it has traditionally had an important place in these countries. Handpicked cotton is spun and woven on narrow looms by the men folk; these strips of approximately 15 cm wide are then stitched together into cloths. The women carry out the more convoluted and cumbersome job of dying the cloths.
